Our method of recording relies on readily available tools. They may be imperfect, but they are immediate. What these tools give us is an instinctive way of seeing the world.

“Things Seen At 3km/h”

niets launches its first series, Things Seen at 3km/h. It comes from the way I observe the city during my daily dog walks—a slow, low-angle pace where I’m not in control and have no choice but to slow down.

At that speed, I’m closer to the street. I start noticing things like the texture of iron gates, faded details on old buildings, shadows at street corners, and unexpected blocks of color on the ground. Most people would pass these by, but at 3km/h, they stand out. They feel more distinct, more personal, and more real.

The patterns in this series are drawn from these unplanned, unfiltered moments. They don’t try to tell a story or romanticize everyday life.

They simply present the moments caught in motion—small details worth being brought forward and seen.

Story of “StrayLines”

For its first series, niets introduces the “Stray Lines HAT”, inspired by the winding curves of metal gates and the muted color blocks of building walls, observed at a walking pace of 3 km/h. We chose a raw, textured canvas as the base — a surface that carries the same lived-in quality as the urban walls layered with marks over time. Pearlescent threads wander across its surface, where rough and refined, instinctive and intentional, collide to create a new visual texture.
